Broken Deer, Broken Husband

If you’ve at all been following my postings, you’ll remember we have a broken deer on our property. She seemed to have been hit by a car. At least, that was my initial assessment but now, I’m not so sure. I wanted to spend today’s blog writing about her but something else “popped” up this…

Getting Ready for the Holidays!

Today, after our radio talk show, DIALOGUE: BETWEEN THE LINES, I officially began getting ready for the holiday season. I’m so excited about Christmas this year. I’m getting my Nook reader. Skwee. The reason I am starting a little earlier this year is because I want to be able to finish a small remodeling project…

Dinner at Friends, Inappropriate Behavior, and Story Idea Development

My name is Susan Wingate and I’m 52 this year. My husband turned 63 in June. I never think of myself as old unless I happen to pass by one of the many broken mirrors in our house. They used to be unbroken. Not that they’re cracked or chipped. Not that the silver has peeled off of the back from age. But, they just don’t work right any longer. My reflection has become someone else’s and so I need to either replace them all, again, or just do away with the blasted things completely.

Waking at Home

My EASY AS PIE AT BOBBY’S DINER book tour originally began in May 2010. Lasting, officially, until September, the days didn’t slack off after my return, no, they seemed to get more hectic. Cats, Autograph Parties and District 9

In that order… Also, this is a rather long, possibly boring post so to spice things up, I’ve inserted a topic-oriented cartoon, quote or joke into each section. For instance, in the cat section, you’ll find a cat cartoon. Find them if you can. And, no, the overriding joke is not that I have so…

And, Why Would Anyone Care About This?

When the house begins to look like a big laundry bin, I start to get a little nervous. When cat fur tumbleweeds blow softly across the floor because a wall heater kicks on, I start to get a little nervous. When some unidentifiable puddle on a stair shows up after hearing the all too identifiable “hooka hooka hooka” from a cat, be it PNutBudda or RazberryJam, I start to get a little nervous.

Facebook, and How I Avoided Writing Today…

Writing used to be simpler. No Email, no cellphones, no Facebook! And, although these tools let us communicate, educate and promote, at will, they have also created an entirely new ‘time suck’ in our already busy lives. Time Suck – Definition: A person, thing or occurrence meant to distract from projects in-progress. We all know…

Down Time on an Up Day…

Today, my first day of the EASY AS PIE AT BOBBY’S DINER virtual book tour, started out like any other, weary blurry eyes, a cup of hot tea with soy milk, the dark den lit only by a burning fireplace, my computer on with the glaring screen waking me. However, by 10:30 this morning, life on our little island went “dark.” We lost power. It happens sometimes. It does. Usually, during the winter. And, as Lupe noted, while he raked leaves out of our yard, “Why does it only happen when it’s cold?”
