It’s Been A While

It’s been a while. More than a month, two months, in fact, since I’ve sent out a note to my friends. So, here you go. Lots has happened in the past two months with several major activities that have kept me running.

The Little Store – I’m helping out more hands-on at our store in town. Since Bob retired last September, I’ve been easing my way into oversight management of personnel and finances.

Deacon at Church – I have spent one year and ten months in the second term of being one of twelve deacons at our church. I’m also the treasurer for the deacon board so I’m busy monthly in spurts with that job. And once a year, each deacon takes responsibility for one month of meeting the needs of people in our community. We also give out Christmas boxes, prepare an Easter breakfast, and set up chairs in front of the church for our July 4th parade. We also set up the Communion table and set out a coffee hour with noshes and refreshments to be enjoyed after Communion service.

Chair of the AOTSJI – I took on the chair position of our newly established Authors of the San Juan Islands author membership association. Each month when business heats up, I ask myself, “What was I thinking?” LOL. But it’s good work and there are many hands ready and willing to step up to new responsibilities. We have a monthly Farmers Market presence with loads of books to sell. We will have our third Meet the Author event May 19th, and we’re always taking new authors as members. It’s a ton of good fun work.

Another Novel Completed – I finished my latest coming of age story, a YA novel with elements of magical realism. I sent that one to the editor today. I’m looking forward to reviewing her edits and making the story as strong as possible. She will start at the end of April and she would return the edits in three weeks. That’s the first phase. We can do up to three passes on the story making sure that I’m understanding and applying her suggestions correctly. One of the story’s first readers said, “I was terrorized. Then, I cried.” That kind of comment about an author’s story is golden. And, no! I’m not telling you the title right now. It’s a secret.

The Writing Studio – My writing studio is officially open with events scheduled out through October. I will close November and December for the holidays. But several of us enjoyed the inaugural event, a two day writers retreat filled with physical motion, meditation, exploration, and immersive writing. All-in-all, we got in 2.5 hours over the weekend of each, light exercise, meditation, exploration, and writing. What a great and creative time spent by all. The next event is a craft class in character called, Drilling Down Character. That one will be held Saturday, April 27th from 10AM to 4PM. You can learn more about The Writing Studio by clicking HERE. I hope you can find time to join us and learn among other talented writers.

I hope you’re enjoying this beautiful new season. We’re enjoying the daffodils, purple hyacinth, the bees, and a flurry of coming baby deer. Life is good. Thanks to God. Amen and Hallelujah!

Busy, Busy, Busy! WOW you have been busy! Thanks for squeezing in the time for an update! As for “I was terrorized and then I cried” in the same sentence in a book review? Makes me both scared and eager to read the new book! I wish you the very best success in ALL your endeavors!

BTW I absolutely LOVE the deer picture!
And … I love and miss you even more!
    Hugs and kisses,
    Cousin Jo
